The war started in my backyard

Blasts of terror shattered the earth
and cries of war pierced the sky.
Blood spilled and innocence died;
while madmen rejoiced in unrestrained joy.
The miasma of darkness hid the sun,
as the crimson king moved
to the beats of the death dance.
All the zealots, misogynists,
politicians,war mongers
laughed out loud,
hiding behind a garb of respectability;
just one of the crowd.
The guilty will be annihilated
a common refrain,
a mother cried at the death bed
of her two year old child.
The war started in my backyard
its frightening I know,
and I let out a prayer
before I tuned in for the cricket score.
