The Ghost City

An elusive whisper urged me to move fast,
as I followed the footsteps
the tide of time had not washed away.
The beast howled wild and savage.
The siren lured me and I entered the city
the world had left behind.
Empty, broken and lost,
the ruins were all I could see
With my human eyes.
But ever so slowly I could hear a soft whisper,
a story being told of some distant place.
I could envision sights long lost.
Cool perfection, frozen beauty,
pristine and sterile.
Drugged and dazzled, I walked deeper into the ghost city.
Reality faded merged with dreams
and I walked right into its heart.
Oblivious to the dark menacing shadows,
Surrounding me, blocking the sunlight.
Trying to swallow me whole.
